About & methodology

Rate My Croissant helps people avoid disappointing pastry and find genuinely excellent croissants, using specific and comparable ratings from people who actually went.

Five golden croissants

Every rating is out of five golden croissants. Reviewers choose whole croissants for speed; averages can show halves and one decimal place, always with the number of reviews beside them.

What we ask reviewers

Flavor
How delicious and well-balanced was it?
Flakiness
Did the outer layers feel crisp, delicate and properly laminated?
Inner texture
Was the inside light, airy, layered and satisfying rather than doughy or dry?
Appearance
Consider its color, bake, proportions, size and shape.
Value for this city
Considering local prices and quality, did it feel worth what you paid?

How scores are calculated

  • A bakery's overall rating is the mean of reviewers' overall satisfaction ratings.
  • Each criterion is averaged independently — we never blend them into a hidden score.
  • Value is the mean of explicit value-for-this-city ratings. We never divide rating by price.
  • Prices are only compared within the same city and currency.
  • Where there isn't enough data, we say so rather than inventing a ranking.

Independence

Featured bakeries are chosen editorially by our team. Nobody can pay for placement, and bakeries cannot edit or remove consumer ratings. Reviews must come from a verified email address, and anyone can report a review.
